Free Pattern Just Because!

 I love retro and make thing with 30's fabric. I know this red fabric isn't retro but it does match my kitchen. I  did this  Bread Bag a few years ago and now I use it to hold plastic bags so I thought would be a fun project to revisit.

I love bread bags! and having a cute one on the counter is so fun. And a great gift idea too. I got the embroidery pattern off the Internet a while ago as a free pattern, so that's the one I used. Well, my wonderful husband used. Remember he's my stitch er. Any of "Aunt Martha's" patterns would be great!

I made this bag to fit a regular bag of bread. You may want to lengthen or shorten for the bread size of bread you make.

Supplies:

41 inches rick rack

1 yard draw string

2 Skn. DMC floss (you pick color)

Pellon 20 inches X 20 inches

Red Fabric:

20 inches X 3 inches

20 inches X 7 1/4 inches

Cream Fabric:

20 inches x 7 1/2 inches

Green (inside and top edge)

20 inches X 20 inches

Hint: The seam is going to be in the back not on the side. That is why your picture will be in the center of the cream piece.

1. Cream fabric- cut 20 inches X 7 1/2 inches find center of the fabric. Iron your favorite iron on in the center or using a light box trace you picture. On the back of the fabric iron the pellon. This helps stabilize your fabric for your stitching and helps hide lines.Now using 2 strands of DMC floss embroider your picture.When done iron from the back to get rid of hoop or folding lines.

2. Sew the red fabric ( 20 X 7 1/4) to the bottom of the cream fabric. And the red fabric

( 20 X 3 ) to the top edge.

3. Iron seams to the red fabric.
4. Sew rick rack at seam on bottom and top of the cream fabric.


5. Sew green fabric to the top of your bag.After sewn fold the very top edge to the bottom red edge. It will be back to back and you will have about 2 inches green showing at the top. Iron this at the fold. This will be your marking as to where the green goes to the inside and stays on the outside. Open up.
6. Now you should have it laying out with the top green, then red, then cream, and then red. Fold left to right with the wrong side showing up. Sew the side seam all the way down. From the seam you just sewed find the center front at the bottom and top edges and mark with a pin. On the bottom (red fabric)Line up the back seam and the center front and sew across the bottom edge. For top edge repeat the instructions for bottom EXCEPT sew both sides and leave a gap in the center for turning. To make the bottom of the bag take the corner and match the side seam to the bottom seam and sew 1 1/2 inch across. do this at the top and bottom. Turn right side out and sew closed.


On the bottom (red fabric)Line up the back seam and the center front and sew across the bottom edge. For top edge repeat the instructions for bottom EXCEPT sew both sides and leave a gap in the center for turning. To make the bottom of the bag take the corner and match the side seam to the bottom seam and sew 1 1/2 inch across. do this at the top and bottom. Turn right side out and sew closed.

7. Using the ironed fold in the green, turn the green fabric into the bag and sew 3/4 inch down from the fold all the way around and repeat 1 inch down again. I sewed back and forth by the back seam. And in between then 2 stitch lines you just did unpick the back seam to thread your draw string through.

8. Put a safety pin in the end of the draw string and string it through.

9. Make your favorite loaf of bread

10. slide it into your new bag....when cool....and enjoy!

Dresden Fun

I was having so much fun quilting last week.

Dresdens!! I love making them.

Using Lori Holt's thimble rulers make it easy.

Sewing them on the squares!

Then the quilting began!

Adding Trim

Kelly added trim to cupboard...

The top rail and the bottom 2 scallops.

I just love it. I think it makes the cupboard look less store bought.

I am loving my new sewing room.

Making Bags

I searched and searched all over Youtube for an easy pattern to make a new Make Up Bag and this is my first bag to try.

You see there are several different tutorials and I couldn't decide which one to do, so I am going to try a few patterns.

I like this pattern and I found it on Iheartsewing on YouTube.

What I didn't like is zig zagging the edges on the inside. 

I guess I could have used a serger but I wanted it to be faster than having to set up another machine.

I do love the tabs on each side for holding onto while zipping.

I filled it up with all my stuff and I do love this bag.

The size is a great size.  And I liked how the zipper is larger than you need to make it easier to sew in.

I did use warm and natural since I was out of the iron on interfacing. And its not as stiff as I would like but it is fine and the next one I make I will try the iron on interfacing just to see.

All done and filled to the brim!

New Sewing Room

 

Finally found it!

I looked everywhere and I finally found the flooring for my new sewing room!

I am so exited! I am doing the room with fabric by J. Wecker Frisch and I can't wait to get started.

 

 

I bought a few of her prints to hang on the wall too!

      I am using the button fabric to cover my ironing/pressing table.

I have a ton of fabric so I can't wait to get started!

Looks Like a New Machine

I love the new look of my Bernina!

 In the move to the Islands the front of my machine got scuffed up and 

I was so sad until I found it a  "Skin".

You get to design it how you want and so I used my favorite 

scrap book paper and a vintage postcard.

I just love it.
